The 2012 U.S. Open draws were announced on Thursday at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York. A potential 2012 Olympics rematch taking place in the U.S. Open semifinals between gold medalist No. 3 Andy Murray and runner-up No. 1 Roger Federer highlights the men's bracket.
Huntington Beach's Daniel Kosakowski faces Japan's Hiroki Moriya in round three of the men's qualifying round on Friday.
On the women's side, Serena Williams is the perennial favorite to win this year's U.S. Open. Williams enters the U.S. Open after a pair of wins at Wimbledon and the Olympics. She faces American Coco Vandeweghe in round one.
Newport Beach-native Alexa Glatch plays for a spot in the tournament against Spain's Lara Arruabarrena-Vecino in round three of the women's qualifying round on Friday. Also fighting for a spot in round three of the women's qualifying tournament is USC's Maria Sanchez. She faces Kristyna Pliskova of the Czech Republic on Friday.
This year's U.S. Open takes place from August 27th through September 9th.
