2012 Olympics Basketball: Pau Gasol Leads Spain To Thriller Over Great Britain

Pau Gasol and his fellow Spaniards won a thrilling game over Great Britain on Thursday, winning at the buzzer by a score of 79-78. Gasol, who spends his time in the NBA with the Los Angeles Lakers, led the way with 17 points, four assists, two rebounds and two blocks. He shot 6-for-14 from the field.

Spain led just about the entire way, but a furious rally from Great Britain pulled them within one point in the closing seconds. Luol Deng nailed a 3-pointer with just six seconds on the clock to cut the deficit to one point. It was the third 3-pointer for the team in the final 120 seconds of action.

Spain quickly inbounded the ball to Jose Calderon, who somehow managed to weave in and out of Great Britain's defenders to run out the clock. It appeared he had been fouled prior to the clock striking zero, but the referees did not blow the whistle.
