Redlands, CA native Tyler Clary was in top form coming into the 200M backstroke final on Thursday at the 2012 Olympic games in London, looking to keep fellow American Ryan Lochte from another gold medal. And after a stellar performace Clary did just that, claiming the gold medal while Lochte would have to settle for the bronze.
Clary would claim the top spot with a time of 1:53:41, beating out Japan's Ryosuke Irie who took the silver medal with a time of 1:53:78. Lochte was not too far behind, taking the bronze with a time of 1:53:94.
Lochte won this event in the 2008 Olympics in Beijing with the same exact time he swam today. Obviously the competition has caught up with him.
That's another gold for the United States, who are sitting pretty in the medal count on the sixth day of Olympic competition. You can check out SI's complete medal tracker here.
