American swimmer Rebecca Soni has been on fire at the 2012 Olympic games in London after setting a new world record in the 200 meter breaststroke on Wednesday in the semi-final race. But the New Jersey native and current USC student did it again on Thursday, breaking her own record in the final as she claimed the gold medal in the women's 200M breaststroke.
Soni blazed through the field with a time of 2 minutes, 19.59 seconds, beating her own mark from the semis by 0.41 seconds. It marked the sixth world record set in the pool at the London games thus far.
Satomi Suzuki of Japan finished in 2:20.72 to take the silver medal, while Iuliia Efimova of Russia finished in 2:20.92 for bronze.
Soni was also favored to win the 100M breaststroke, but eventually took the silver behind15-year-old winner Ruta Meilutyte of Lithuania.
