Los Angeles Galaxy captain Landon Donovan capped off a big weekend by being named the Major League Soccer Player of the Week, as voted on by the North American Soccer Reporters.
Donovan assisted on all four Galaxy goals in the team's win over Chivas USA in the SuperClasico of L.A. Sunday night at the Home Depot Center. The U.S. national team veteran became the fourth player in MLS history to record four assists in a single regular-season match, and first to do so for the Galaxy in their history.
Donovan, 30, raised his assist total to 11 on the season. He was named Player of the Week for the second time this season and 14th in his career, with 12 of those honors coming as a member of the Galaxy.
Fourteen of 17 voters made Donovan their No. 1 choice. The Galaxy have a solid hold on the fifth and final playoff spot in the MLS Western Conference at present, with an 11-11-3 record.
