The Los Angeles athletes at the London Olympic games represented well with great performances in all the signature events.
Chris Paul, Kobe Bryant, Kevin Love and Russell Westbrook all helped the United States capture gold in the 2012 Olympic Games with solid performances throughout the tournament. Paul, Bryant and Love all played prominent roles in Team USA's gold medal victory against Spain.
Long Beach State's Misty-May Treanor partnered with Kerri Walsh-Jennings to win their third straight gold medal in beach volleyball. Trojans April Ross and Jen Kessy won silver.
Sarah Hammer from Redondo Beach won the team silver medal in the women's team pursuit and an individual silver in the women's omnium.
Troy Dumais and his partner Kristian Ipsen won bronze in the three meter synchornized springboard.
Kyla Ross (from Aliso Viejo) and McKayla Maroney (from Long Beach) won gold medals as part of the women's team event for the United States, highlighted by Maroney's great vault. Maroney added a silver in the individual vault event.
Adrienne Martelli won a bronze in the women's quadruple sculls. Esther Lofgren was part of the gold medal women's eight boat.
Kim Rhode won her third overall Olympic gold medal and fifth overall. She won her first in Atlanta and won her first in skeet shooting (the first two came in double trap).
USWNT players Alex Morgan, Amy Rodriguez, Shannon Boxx, Lauren Cheney and Sydney Leroux all won gold medals after beating Japan.
In swimming, Pasadena's Missy Franklin won four gold medals in her first Olympic games (two in the backstroke, two in the relays), and one bronze. Rebecca Soni won three medals (two golds and one silver) in the breaststroke races as well as the individual medley relay. Tyler Clary from the Redlands won gold in the men's 200 meter backstroke. Jessica Hardy also grabbed two medals in the 4 x 100 meter medley (gold), and the 4 x 100 meter freestyle (bronze). Jason Lezak also grabbed a silver in the 4 x 100 meter freestyle.
Los Angeles also did really well tennis-wise. Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan captured gold in men's doubles, and Mike added a bronze in mixed doubles with Lisa Raymond. Serena Williams grabbed gold in the women's singles, and she also won gold with Venus in the women's doubles.
And Los Angeles absolutely dominated track and field. Los Angeles's Allyson Felix won gold in the women's 200 meters while also grabbing two more golds in the 4 x 100 meter and 4 x 400 relays. Carmelita Jeter finished with a silver in the 100 meters, a bronze in the 200 meters, and a gold in the 4 x 100 meter relay. Brittney Reese captured gold in the women's long jump. Bryshon Nellum and Josh Mance finished with a silver in the men's 4 x 400 meter relay. Lashinda Demus grabbed silver in the women's 400 meter hurdles. Dee Dee Trotter grabbed gold in the 4 x 400 meter relay and bronze in the 400 meter dash.
The women's water polo team also won gold with a couple of players from UCLA and USC.
