Olympics Medal Count: United States Wins Comfortably Over China, Russia

The 2012 Olympics concluded on Sunday afternoon in London. The United States sat near the top of the medal count throughout the two weeks of competition, and a strong showing in the final days propelled the country to a comfortable finish atop the leaderboard.

The USA won a total of 104 medals, 46 of which were gold. They also won 29 silver and 29 bronze. China finished in second place with 87 medals; 38 of them were gold, 27 were silver and 22 were bronze. Russia made a late push and finished in third place with 82 total medals, nearly taking over China for the second spot.

The hosts, Great Britain, placed fourth with 65 medals, including the third-most gold with 29. Germany was a distant fifth-place finisher with 44 medals.
