2012 Olympics, Basketball Gold Medal Game: Pau Gasol Shines, But Team USA Wins 107-100

Pau Gasol and Spain was able to keep the game close, but Team USA proved too tough down the stretch, capturing the men's basketball finale with a 107-100 win on Sunday in London to win the gold medal.

USA beat Spain 118-107 in the gold medal game in the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.

Gasol had 24 points and eight rebounds, including 15 points in the third quarter, as Spain trailed by a single point with 10 minutes remaining. Team USA outscored Spain 24-18 in the fourth quarter to pull away.

Kobe Bryant scored 17 points for Team USA, and averaged 12.1 points per game during the tournament, his final Olympics. Kevin Durant scored 30 points to lead all scorers.

Chris Paul had five points early in the fourth quarter to give the United States a cushion, but Spain was able to keep the game relatively close in the final period. LeBron James helped put the game away late with a dunk with 2:47 remaining, and three-pointer with 1:59 left for a nine-point lead. James finished with 19 points.
