The Los Angeles Angels got some unexpected contributions from Vernon Wells on Saturday in the second game of a three-game series against the Seattle Mariners at the Big A. Unfortunately, Wells could only do so much in a 7-4 loss.
The Mariners jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second inning with RBI singles from Trayvon Robinson and Dustin Ackley. John Jaso belted a solo homer in the third inning to make it 4-0 Seattle.
Seattle added another three runs in the fourth inning, on a Brendan Ryan sacrifice fly, an error by Albert Pujols and an RBI single from Jaso.
Wells, who was making a rare start in the wake of the exemplary play by Mark Trumbo and Mike Trout this season, finally got the Angels on the board in the fifth inning with an RBI single. He hit his seventh homer of the year in the eighth to cut the Seattle lead to 7-3.
Kendrys Morales managed to get the Angels another run closer in the ninth inning with his 15th home run of the year.
The Angels cannot afford to drop this series, especially with the Oakland Athletics winning their game on Saturday. The Halos will go for the series win on Sunday.
