Olympics 2012 Medal Count: United States On Top Heading Into Sunday

The United States is exactly where it wants to be entering the final day of the 2012 Olympic Games in London on Sunday. The U.S. holds a 15-medal lead in the overall medal count, with 102 medals compared to second-place China's 87. The U.S. also has 44 gold medals against 38 for China.

There is a chance that the U.S. could pick up at least one more gold medal on Sunday, as the men's basketball team plays against Spain in the gold medal match. Can the dream team help the U.S. win it all at the Olympics?

Here is how the top five looks in the latest medal count:

  1. United States, 102 (44 gold, 29 silver, 29 bronze)
  2. China, 87 (38, 27, 22)
  3. Russia, 78 (21, 25, 32)
  4. Great Britain, 62 (28, 15, 19)
  5. Germany, 44 (11, 19, 14)
