Angels Promote Steven Geltz To Take Bullpen Spot

As expected, the Los Angeles Angels on Saturday made official their promotion of relief pitcher Steven Geltz to the major leagues, before their game against the Seattle Mariners in Anaheim. Geltz takes the roster spot of David Carpenter, who was optioned to Triple A Salt Lake after Friday's game.

In 19 games in Triple A, the right-hander was 0-1 with a 3.76 ERA with three saves, nine walks, and 23 strikeouts. Geltz, 24, was promoted earlier this season from Double A Arkansas, where he was 3-0 with a 0.36 ERA in 21 games, with six walks and 37 strikeouts.

In his last six outings in Triple A, Geltz had 13 strikeouts against just one walk in 8 1/3 innings.
