Kevin Harvick was hoping for a better finish on Sunday in the Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Although the Bakersfield native finished in 13th place in the latest race in the 2012 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, he will retain his position as the No. 6 driver in the overall Sprint Cup points standings.
The winner of Sunday's race was Jimmie Johnson, who is now fourth in the standings. This was his fourth career win in the Brickyard at Indianapolis. Dale Earnhardt, Jr. finished in fourth place, but has become the new overall points leader as the cutoff draws near. The previous leader, Matt Kenseth, finished in 35th place as a result of wrecking out. This is the first time that Earnhardt has led the Sprint Cup standings since 2004.
