USA Women's Soccer: Alex Morgan, Shannon Boxx, Sydney Leroux, Amy Rodriguez Represent L.A. In London Olympics

Alex Morgan, Shannon Boxx, Sydney Leroux and Amy Rodriguez are all representing the United States at the 2012 Olympic Games on the women's soccer team.

Presswire

There are several soccer players on the women's national teams with Los Angeles roots. Find out a little bit about each of them.

  • Alex Morgan from Diamond Bar is the rising star for the national team. In only 42 appearances, Morgan has racked up 27 goals for the United States, a record-setting pace. Morgan figures to be one of the biggest stars of these games, particularly if the USA is able to recapture gold.
  • Shannon Boxx from Fontana is an old hat, and has been a member of the national team for nearly a decade. Boxx generally plays midfield and occasionally some defense, and is pretty strong at either spot.
  • Sydney Leroux goes to school at UCLA and is one of the youngest members of the current US team, also playing mostly as a striker, usually coming off the bench.
  • Amy Rodriguez hails from Beverly Hills, went to school at USC, and has played for the United States since 2005. Rodriguez figures to do a lot of the striking along with Morgan.

The United States begins group play before the Opening Ceremony when they play France on Wednesday, continuing on with Colombia on Saturday and finishing up with North Korea on Tuesday.
