Blake Griffin seemed to be on the verge of being a very explosive player for the United States men's basketball team to rely on at the power forward spot. The US team is solid on athletic versatility but struggles with interior presence.
Unfortunately, Griffin got injured just as training camp started for the national team. The injury was a meniscus tear in his left knee that required surgery that will sideline him until at least the start of NBA training camp. Griffin had to be replaced by Anthony Davis.
Of course, if the Olympics does eventually impose an under-23 rule for basketball as the NBA appears to be pushing for in the next round of negotiations, then Griffin might never get a chance to represent his country at the Olympic games.
