For the second time this year on the Tour de France a rider has tested positive for illegal substances, casting further doubts into how well the grandest of cycling events can stay clean.
Frank Schleck of Luxemborg tested positive for the diuretic Xipamide on Tuesday in a sample taken on July 14th. The Radioshack team decided to withdraw Schleck as he went to the Pau police station to cooperate with authorities.
Schleck was currently in 12th place overall, 9 minutes and 45 seconds behind Bradley Wiggins. He finished third in the tour last year.
UCI guidelines allow Schleck four days to request a test of his B sample.
