Maria Sharapova took home the women's championship at the 2012 French Open on Saturday, and it was down to just No. 1 Novak Djokovic and No. 2 Rafael Nadal battling for the title on the men's side. Despite a very strong start from Nadal in the early going, rainy conditions allowed Djokovic to get back into the match before it was suspended by rain. Play is expected to resume on Monday morning from Rolland Garros.
Nadal won the first set 6-4 and the second 6-3, but lost the third set 2-6. Djokovic led the fourth set 2-1 before everything was suspended due to rain. Both players had been complaining about the slippery court and tennis balls all day, and the officials finally decided to call it when a new wave of showers was headed for the stadium.
Not quite the way you want the championship match of a major tournament to be played, but the rain waits for no one. The rest of the match on Monday morning will be shown on NBC Sports Network.
