2012 Indy 500 Results And Recap: Southern California Drivers Finish In Top 10

The 2012 Indianapolis 500 is finally in the books after Sunday's running at Inddianapolis Motor Speedway. Dario Franchitti won the thrilling race to take home the most coveted checkered flag in IndyCar and one of the most prestigious victories in the world of open-wheel racing.

Southern California was well-represented in the race and in fact both SoCal drivers not only finished in the Top 10, but back-to-back. Charlie Kimball placed eighth, while Townsend Bell crossed the finish line in ninth place. Kimball rebounded quite well from wrecking his car during a practice lap at the track just one week earlier.

The race was not without controversy, as leader Takuma Sato spun out and crashed on the white-flag final lap as he was passed by the race's eventual winner, Franchitti. As SB Nation's Jeff Gluck reports, Sato claims that Franchitti crowded him, but Franchetti sees things a bit differently.

After the win, Franchitti took a moment to pay homage to the late Dan Wheldon, who won last year's Indy 500 and died in a crash in October.
