Stage eight of the 2012 Amgen Tour of California is a short ride from Beverly Hills to a finishing circuit in downtown Los Angeles. The riders will cover 44 miles in total, and while the fight for the sprint should be tightly contested, the GC standings are extremely unlikely to see any change. Robert Gesink (Rabobank) seized the race on Mt. Baldy and there's little chance of anyone taking it from him.
The sprint will be wide open, though if the first four stages of the tour are any indication it's going to be Peter Sagan (Liquigas) taking the win again. Henrich Haussler (Garmin-Barracuda), who has come in second on all of Sagan's four stage wins, will have one last chance at a stage win. A stage like this is usually a casual effort from the peloton, but the sprinters make an effort for every finish.
