It already cut the Par-3 contest short, and now another batch of inclement weather is threatening Thursday's first round of The Masters at Augusta National.
As Sean Breslin of Weather.com reports, the wet weather could drive the scores further into the red, but they could also force the players off the course as a 60 percent chance of rain along with some afternoon thunderstorms are predicted by Weather.com, with a high of 81 degrees.
With softer greens come more flag-hunting around the pins, but also less roll in the fairways and possibly muddy conditions as well. The players will have to adjust to the conditions accordingly, not only with their gameplan''s but possibly their equipment as well. As for the historically agressive Phil Mickelson, he knows he'll need some tweaks:
"It seems that some of the planning I have made may go by the wayside," Phil Mickelson (Masters Champion in 2004, 2006 and 2010) said during a press conference Tuesday. "As soft as the golf course is, you can fire at a lot of the pins. The greens are soft. I don't want to say they are slow, but it's just not the same Augusta. It's wet around the greens, and there's no fear of the course. You've got to attack it this week."
The possibility or rain continues into Friday, but warm, dry conditions are scheduled for the weekend, making the course harder, faster and tougher as the course dries out. Tiger Woods certainly has some experience with these kinds of things at Augusta:
"Generally, if you hit it really close all the time, you're OK," Tiger Woods told reporters with a grin..."There's so much slope out here, and as we all know, if they get dry conditions, as the week goes on, it's going to get awfully quick and those putts become even more difficult," Woods added.
Look for players to be aggressive in the first couple rounds as the supple greens will add to the low scores. Hopefully the lightning and the weather dealys will steer clear of Augusta National.
