NASCAR At Martinsville Results 2012: Kevin Harvick Drops To 4th In Standings, Ryan Newman Takes Checkered Flag

On Sunday, the 2012 Sprint Cup Series held its second short-track race in as many weeks at Martinsville Speedway. Many drivers seemed unable to puzzle out the tiny track and quickly fell behind. Kevin Harvick dropped all the way to 20th place at the checkered flag, his worst finish of the season and the first time this year he has finished lower than 11th place. With the poor placement, Harvick drops to fourth place in the overall standings, as both Dale Earnhardt, Jr. and Martin Truex, Jr. passed him in the point totals. Greg Biffle also had his worst finish of the season with 14th place, but remains the overall points leader.

The end of the race saw a caution come out on Lap 497, but the restart resulted in a spinout and subsequent attempt at a restart. When the smoke cleared, Ryan Newman had picked up his first win at Martinsville, edging out AJ Allmendinger and Earnhardt, Jr.
