College Baseball 2012: Fullerton Takes 2 Of 3 From Northridge

The Cal State Fullerton Titans opened Big West Conference play by hosting rivals Cal State Northridge over the weekend. Fullerton won two out of three games to improve their season record to 17-10.

On Friday, the Titans picked up a 7-2 win thanks in part to three-hit performances by second baseman Richy Pedroza and first baseman Carlos Lopez. Dylan Floro pitched a complete game, giving up both Northridge runs in the top of the ninth inning. He allowed seven hits and walked none while striking out nine.

On Saturday, Fullerton picked up another victory by a final score of 8-6. Shortstop Anthony Trjano was 4-for-4 with three runs scored, while center fielder Michael Lorenzen added another three hits.

The Titans had a chance to sweep on Sunday, but lost 5-1. Pedroza had another two hits and left fielder Ivory Thomas contributed an additional two hits, but the team left seven runners on base. Only Lorenzen was able to pick up an RBI. Graham Wiest pitched the full game for Fullerton, giving up four earned runs on nine hits while striking out six.

The Titans have four games this week. They will first visit the San Diego State Aztecs on Tuesday, then return to Big West Conference play as they host the UC Davis Aggies on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
