2012 WCC Tournament Final: Matthew Dellavedova Sparks Gaels To 78-74 OT Win

Matthew Dellavedova scored 22 points, including four in the extra period, to lead the Saint Mary's Gaels to a 78-74 overtime win over the No. 24 Gonzaga Bulldogs in the West Coast Conference Tournament Final at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas.

Elias Harris of Gonzaga (25-6) hit a three-pointer with two seconds remaining to send the game into overtime, three of his 22 points to go with 13 rebounds. Robert Sacre added 17 points and four rebounds for Gonzaga, which has played in a staggering 15 consecutive WCC Tournament finals.

Rob Jones had 18 points and nine rebounds for the Gaels (27-5), who shot 44.4% from the field on the night. Brad Waldow added 13 points and eight rebounds for the victorious Gaels.

It really was fitting that the two best teams in the WCC all season needed an extra period to decide things on Monday night. This season, the Gaels won 83-62 at home on January 12, and the Bulldogs returned the favor with a 73-59 home win on February 9.

This was the fourth straight WCC Tournament final matchup between the two schools, with Saint Mary's winning in 2010 and 2012, and Gonzaga winning in 2009 and 2011. Both teams will make the NCAA Tournament, but this was a thrilling end to a great game between two excellent teams.
