The rains finally hit Southern California this weekend. While residents are happy that Spring is finally here, Southern California NASCAR fans were disappointed when Sunday's race was called short due to inclement weather. The Auto Club 400 in Fontana was officially shortened due to rain for the first time in the history of the Auto Club Speedway. The race will be the only one this year in the 2012 Sprint Cup Series.
The shortened race was good news, however, for Tony Stewart, who stayed out on the track rather than pitting when the initial caution came out and ended up being in the lead when the red flag appeared and the race was subsequently officially called. The win marks the second first-place finish for Stewart this season and puts him just one point behind Dale Earnhardt, Jr. in the Sprint Cup standings. Earnhardt took third place on Sunday. Bakersfield native Kevin Harvick finished fourth and remains in second place overall in the standings, behind leader Greg Biffle.
