NCAA Bracket 2012 And Schedule: A Look At The West Region After Long Beach State Eliminated

The first full day of the 2012 NCAA Tournament brought the curtain down on the season for the Long Beach State 49ers. The senior-laden team, the No. 12 seed in the West Region, fell to the No. 5 seed New Mexico Lobos on Wednesday 75-68 in a close, hard fought game.

Only two of the 16 games on Thursday produced upsets, as the Pac-12 Tournament champion and No. 11 seed Colorado Buffaloes upended the No. 6 seed UNLV Runnin' Rebels 68-64. Outside of Washington and Oregon still alive in the NIT, Colorado is the only Pac-12 team still playing. Colorado will play No. 3 seed Baylor on Saturday night.

Last year's Final Four Cinderella story, the VCU Rams, gave us an upset yet again on Thursday, as the No. 12 seed Rams beat the No. 5 seed Wichita State Shockers 62-59. VCU will play No. 4 seed Indiana on Saturday.

The four games in the West Region on Thursday went completely according to chalk with the higher seeds winning each game, including Long Beach State falling to New Mexico. Here's a look at the remainder of the West Region now that Long Beach State has been eliminated:
