NASCAR Las Vegas Results 2012: Tony Stewart Takes Checkered Flag, Kevin Harvick Now 2nd In Overall Standings

The third race of the 2012 Sprint Cup season was held on Sunday at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Kevin Harvick entered the day in third place in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series standings and looked to improve with a good placing in the Kobalt Tools 400.

Harvick accomplished his mission by placing 11th in the race. He leapfrogs last week's overall leader, Denny Hamlin. Harvick is now second overall in the Sprint Cup standings with 115 points, 10 points behind new leader Greg Biffle. For the third consecutive race, Biffle placed third. Biffle is easily off to the most consistent start to the 2012 season of any driver in NASCAR.

Tony Stewart ended up taking the checkered flag in the race, while Jimmie Johnson came in second. Johnson's fourth place finish last week and second place finish on Sunday are doing a good job of erasing his performance in the Daytona 500 to open the season, when he wrecked, finished 42nd and was penalized 25 points for rules infractions.
