Super Bowl XLVI bore witness to a closely-contested game between the New York Giants and the New England Patriots. Although the game came down to the final seconds, casual fans will likely remember more about the abundance of "event" Super Bowl ads than anything about the game itself.
This year, like most years, provided a huge range of different options to try to appeal to different demographics. Some of the spots will likely generate better buzz and word-of-mouth than some potential summer blockbusters. Certainly there will likely be more people talking about the fat Volkswagen dog tomorrow at work than about the trailer for Battleship. Let's take a look at some of the standouts from the 2012 Super Bowl.

Three of the standout commercials in my mind were all car ads. Chevy's post-apocalyptic Silverado ad took the cheap route to a couple of jokes, but it seems like if you're going to make an ad to appeal to dudes who might be in the market for a Chevy Silverado, you can stop drilling, because you've struck oil with this one.
Hyundai made an ad that was a bit more broad in its appeal. It has probably planted the Rocky theme in the heads of a million Americans. Depending on how long Hyundai plans on running this ad, you can plan on having this song stuck in your head at some point for the next few months. I'm surprisingly okay with that.
Audi's "Vampire Party" made me long for the days when Buffy and Angel were on the air, and not a million lesser vampire-themed shows and movies. Also, how many humorous commercials end with pretty much everyone in the commercial dying a horrible death? Not enough, in my estimation.
