Loyola Marymount Coach Max Good Named WCC Coach Of The Year

The Loyola Marymount Lions were picked to finish a distant sixth place in the West Coast Conference in the preseason coaches poll, but the Lions won 19 games and had huge road wins against two of the top three teams in the conference. As a result, head coach Max Good was named the WCC Coach of the Year by other coaches in the conference.

Good, in his fourth season as head coach at Loyola Marymount, led the Lions to a 3-2 record against ranked teams during the season, and the Lions led the conference in free throw percentage and three-point percentage defense. They had a six-game road winning streak in conference and finished the conference schedule with a 7-1 road record, including wins at Saint Mary's and BYU.

Good is the first LMU coach to be named Coach of the Year since John Olive in 1996.

Two Lions players made the All-West Coast Conference team, senior forward Drew Viney and sophomore guard Anthony Ireland, the two leading scorers for Loyola Marymount. The Lions are the No. 4 seed in the WCC Tournament, and play in the quarterfinals on Friday night in Las Vegas.
