The Cal State Fullerton Titans did not fare quite as well as they had hoped in the opening weekend of their 2012 season, but they picked up a win over the hometown Florida Gators by a final score of 8-5 on Sunday to avoid the sweep.
The Titans enjoyed a strong performance on Sunday by pitcher Koby Gauna, who came on in relief of starter Kenny Matthews, who departed after a second inning where he gave up three runs to the Gators. Gauna worked five solid innings and gave up just one run, on a homer by Preston Tucker.
Fullerton's entire offense came in bunches, as they posted four runs in both the fifth and sixth innings. First baseman Carlos Lopez and designated hitter J.D. Davis each had three hits and three RBI.
