College Baseball 2012: USC Defeats Jacksonville 4-3, Sweeps Opening Series

The USC Trojans opened their 2012 baseball season this past weekend at home against the Jacksonville University Dolphins. By any measure, their opening series was a big success, as they managed to sweep the Dolphins right out of town.

The final game of the series, a 4-3 win on Sunday, was the closest of the three matchups. The Dolphins took a 3-2 lead in the top of the seventh, but the Trojans were able to tie it back up in the bottom of the frame with a leadoff homer by designated hitter Brandon Garcia. The home run was already the third of the year for Garcia, who is hitting .400 after the opening series. Garcia got to score the eventual winning run in the bottom of the eighth, when he reached on an error, advanced to third on another error and scored on a Kevin Swick single.

WP - Wyatt Strahan (1-0): 1.1 IP, 1 hit, 2 strikeouts, 2 walks

LP - J. Tanner (0-1): 1 IP, 1 hit, 1 strikeout

Sv - Martin Viramontes (1): 1 IP, 2 strikeouts
