College Baseball 2012: Karsten Whitson Leads Florida To 5-2 Victory Over Fullerton

The Cal State Fullerton Titans are not off to the hottest start in their 2012 season. On Saturday, they suffered a 5-2 loss against the hometown No. 1 Florida Gators and have now dropped their first two games of the year.

The starting pitcher for the Gators was Karsten Whitson, the sophomore who was the ninth overall selection in the 2010 MLB draft, but opted to attend college instead. Whitson had a fairly even start, giving up runs in the first and third innings before the Gators exploded for four runs in the bottom of the fourth. That frame was the only real blemish on the day of Fullerton starter Grahamm Wiest, who had six strikeouts and just one walk through five innings.

The Gators would not allow another Titans run, as Austin Maddox spelled Whitson and recorded a four-inning save with just one hit allowed.

WP -Karsten Whitson (1-0): 5 IP, 5 hits, 2 ER, 2 strikeouts, 2 walks

LP -Grahamm Wiest (0-1): 5 IP, 5 hits, 4 ER, 6 strikeouts, 1 walk

Sv - Austin Maddox (1): 4 IP, 1 hit, 3 strikeouts
