Cervante Burrell had 19 points and seven assists, leading the Seattle Redhawks to a 81-70 victory over the Pepperdine Waves Thursday night in a non-conference battle at Key Arena in Seattle. The loss was the fifth straight for Pepperdine (8-18), who has lost 13 of its last 14 games.
This was the second trip to Key Arena for the Waves this season, as they also lost to the Washington State Cougars 67-56 on December 22. This was a return game for the Redhawks (9-14), as Pepperdine beat Seattle 84-64 in Malibu last season.
Taylor Darby scored 20 points and grabbed nine rebounds for Pepperdine, who shot 38.7% from the field during the game. Corbin Moore had 20 points and six rebounds in the game for the Waves. Jordan Baker added 11 points, five rebounds, and five assists. The Waves outrebounded the Redhawks 36-26 on the night.
Burrell made all 11 of his free throw attempts in the win for Seattle. Aaron Broussard had 17 points, and Sterling Carter scored 16 points for the Redhawks in the win.
Pepperdine returns home Saturday night to host the Portland Pilots at Firestone Fieldhouse in Malibu.
