Northern Trust Open 2012: First Round Suspended Due To Darkness, 30 Players Remain On Course

The 2012 Northern Trust Open got underway on Thursday, and the story of the first round was Phil Mickelson shooting a 66 to take the lead at five under par. But the first round story is not yet complete, as the first round was suspended for darkness with 30 of the 144 players still on the course.

Troy Matteson and Rory Sabbatini have the best scores among players who haven't yet finished their opening round, each at two under par, three behind Mickelson. Sabbatini has completed 17 holes to 14 for Matteson. Chris Stroud (through 15 holes), Ken Duke (through 14), Bobby Gates (through 13), and J.J. Killeen (through 12) are all at even par, currently tied for 24th place.

The 30 players will complete their first round on Friday morning before the second round is scheduled to begin at 6:45 a.m. PST.
