The Pepperdine Waves fell behind big early and were simply overmatched on Saturday in Provo, Utah, getting drilled by the BYU Cougars 86-48. The loss was the fourth straight for the Waves (8-17, 2-12 in West Coast Conference play), who have lost 12 of their last 13 games.
Pepperdine fell behind 30-7 at the start of the game, and trailed by as many as 46 points in the second half. The previous worst loss of the season for the Waves was a 74-45 defeat at Saint Mary's on December 31. The Waves shot 33.3% for the game and nobody scored in double figures. Taylor Darby and Ramon Eaton both scored eight points in the loss for Pepperdine.
Charles Abouo scored 23 points and pulled down 12 rebounds in 27 minutes to lead BYU (21-6, 9-3) in the vcitory. Abouo made five of eight attempts from three-point range. Brandon Davies added 13 points and seven rebounds for the Cougars.
Pepperdine takes a bit of a WCC holiday as their next game is a non-conference battle at Seattle on Thursday night.
