Following USC's practice in preparation of the Sun Bowl on Friday, head coach Lane Kiffin said that quarterback Matt Barkley is still expected to play in the game December 31 against Georgia Tech.
Here is what he had to say in the team's practice roundup.
"Matt [Barkley] was out here today. As we have said all along, we don't plan on him practicing until we are down there."
In Barkley's place, freshman Max Wittek has seen the bulk of the snaps with the first team, as he continues to gain experience before presumably taking over the offense next season.
In 11 games this season, Barkley has completed 63.6 percent of his passes for 3,273 yards and led the Pac-12 with 36 touchdowns. In his only start of the season against Notre Dame, Wittek threw for 186 yards and a touchdown with two interceptions.
