USC wide receiver Marqise Lee leads the nation in receptions and receiving yards, but the sophomore is not among the top four favorites for the Heisman Trophy, according to the latest odds from Odds Shark.
Wide receivers often struggle to gain Heisman consideration, as evidenced by the latest odds. Of the four current favorites, three are quarterbacks. Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel is the current Heisman Trophy favorite at 2/5 odds. Kansas State quarterback Collin Klein is next at 5/2 with Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te'o third at 4/1. Ohio State quarterback Braxton Miller rounds out the top four at a distant 20/1.
Lee leads the country with 107 receptions and 1,605 receiving yards. He was named a finalist for the Biletnikoff Award earlier this week, but appears to still be on the outside of Heisman Trophy consideration, even despite his huge season.
It is, however, possible for Lee still to turn some heads. Lee and the Trojans will be the focus of the college football world when they face No. 1 Notre Dame on Saturday. He set the Pac-12 receiving record earlier this year and another similar performance could vault him up the list of candidates.
