In pursuit of a victory on Saturday, Notre Dame's toughest opponents won't be the USC Trojans, but instead the editors at Sports Illustrated. That's right Irish fans, be afraid. Your team is on the cover of Sports Illustrated this week, and now must beware of the dreaded "SI cover jinx."
Here is what the cover will look like, via Sports Illustrated's Twitter handle, @SINow.
Obviously this is all in good fun, however, there is a precedent to believe that some kind of jinx at SI does exist. Just last week Kansas State's Collin Klein was on the cover of the magazine, and in the following game, the Wildcats went on to lose to Baylor 52-24. In the process, Klein's Heisman hopes disappeared too; he threw three interceptions on Saturday night, which was the same number of picks he'd thrown through Kansas State's first 10 games of the season.
As for their actual game on field this weekend, No. 1 Notre Dame will visit long-time rival USC on Saturday evening.
If the Irish win, they will finish the regular season as college football's only undefeated team, and will have the opportunity to play for the BCS National Championship in January.
