Breeders' Cup results 2012: Royal Delta repeats in Ladies' Classic, Hightail upsets Merit Man

Recapping a busy day at the 2012 Breeders' Cup in Southern California.

Six races of the 2012 Breeders' Cup took place on Friday. Here is a full recap of the day's action.

The first race of the day was the Juvenile Sprint. A six-furlong race with a $500,000 purse, it was Hightail who upset Merit Man by a nose. Merit Man was the favorite entering Friday. Sweet Shirley Mae finished third. A full recap can be found here.

Then came the 1 3/4-mile Marathon. Calidoscopio (ARG) was the big winner, moving out to the front of the field early and holding on late. Grassy placed second and Atigun was third. Full results can be found here.

The third race was the Juvenile Fillies Turf. Flotilla, who was running her first race in the United States, pulled away with a furlong to go. Watsdachances placed second and Summer of Fun was third. The payouts can be found here.

Beholder was the big winner of the Juvenile Fillies race. Executive Privilege and Dreaming of Julie rounded out the top three. A full recap is here.

The Filly & Mare Turf, which had a $2,000,000 payout, was won by French horse Zagora. She held off Marketing Mix and The Fugue to earn the big win. You can find the complete recap here

The final race of the day was the Ladies' Classic. For the second year in a row, Royal Delta went gate-to-wire to win the event. My Miss Augrelia was second and Include Me Out was third. Full results are here.
