2012 BCS Rankings, Week 12: Oregon finally breaks into the top two

Alabama's loss leaves an opening for the Oregon Ducks, who jump into the #2 spot in the latest BCS rankings.

Saturday shook up the college football season, with Alabama's loss to Texas A&M leaving a void at #1. The Oregon Ducks were able to fill that void in the human polls, but their inability to gain traction with the computers would keep them out of the top spot in the BCS standings released Sunday night.

Instead, the Kansas State Wildcats grab the top ranking. Oregon did move up to the second spot, allaying fears that the Ducks could finish the regular season undefeated and not make it to the BCS National Championship Game. College football's other undefeated, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, sit at third, .10 behind Oregon.

While this marks the first time in 14 weeks that an SEC team doesn't hold the top spot in the BCS standings, still have an SEC flavor, as SEC teams occupy the #4-#9 slots, led by Alabama at #4. This puts the Crimson Tide in position to gain backdoor entry into the title game should two of the undefeated teams lose.

The UCLA Bruins and USC Trojans make appearances in this week's rankings, with the Bruins checking in at #17, and USC holding down #18.
