Los Angeles Galaxy superstar Landon Donovan left Saturday night's match against Real Salt Lake with an apparent knee injury. His status for the U.S. Men's National Team's upcoming qualifiers against Antigua and Barbuda and Guatemala is in doubt.
Donovan went down after colliding with Salt Lake's Jamison Olave in the 81st minute. After briefly receiving medical attention while on the field, Donovan gingerly walked to the L.A. bench. Following the game, Donovan told reporters that he didn't know the extent of the injury.
"We have no idea," he said. "We have to get it worked out. ... It didn't feel good."
The Galaxy lost Saturday's game to second-place RSL, 2-1, and fell five points back, while remaining in third place. As for the U.S. team, it may need a win and a tie to get through to the next round of qualifying. Not having Donovan certainly doesn't help its cause.
Donovan's answer to the question of whether or not he'll be able to play for the USMNT was short and sweet:
"TBD."
