The gun for the 2012 Long Beach Marathon's main event will go off at 7 a.m. PT on Sunday. The starting line will be placed at the intersection of Shoreline Drive and Shoreline Village Drive in downtown Long Beach before the race winds around the Aquarium of the Pacific and jets off along the beach.
Those running the full marathon will have a view of the ocean for 80 percent of the race, which will wind past Belmont Shore, Blair Field and the Pyramid. Half-marathoners race with the marathon runners and split off from the group at the 10.5 mile mark.
The marathon is USATF certified as an official qualifier.
A health and fitness expo will be open Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Race participants are asked to pick up their race packets on Friday or Saturday, as there is no pickup on Sunday.
Also in the Long Beach Marathon is a 6 a.m. bike tour on Sunday, a 5K run at 8:30 and an opportunity for walkers to start the race early at 6:15 a.m.
