The Los Angeles Galaxy finished off their regular season schedule with a 1-0 shut-out victory over the Seattle Sounders at home on Sunday night.
Mike Magee scored the lone goal late in the contest in the 83rd minute, while goalkeeper Josh Saunders earned his ninth shutout as LA now heads into the postseason with the fourth seed, attempting to repeat as MLS champions.
The win also ended Seattle's hopes to claim the second seed for a better position entering the playoffs. The Sounders (56 points, 15-8-11) settle for the third seed, finishing just one point behind Real Salt Lake (57 points, 17-11-6). Making matters worse Seattle was the exit of leading goal-scorer Eddie Johnson (14) late in the first half with what appeared to be a hamstring injury.
Stars David Beckham and Landon Donovan returned for the Galaxy in the season finale, looking to shake off rust and gain some rhythm after sitting out multiple games with injuries.
LA will begin the playoffs against the fifth-seeded Vancouver Whitecaps on Thursday night at home.
