The third round of the 2012 Open is underway at beautiful CordeValle Golf Club in San Martin, California. Patrick Cantlay, who was born in Long Beach and currently resides in Los Alamitos, is 1-under through nine holes on Saturday, which improves his overall score to 6-under par for the tournament. Cantlay is now tied for 22nd place and sits seven strokes back of the leaders.

John Mallinger currently sits atop the leaderboard at 13-under. He just began his third round and bogeyed the second hole. Jhonattan Vegas has moved into second place at 12-under, and he's hit two birdies through the first three holes. Nicolas Colsaerts, who many picked to win the tournament at the start of the week, is one stroke back of Vegas at 11-under. He is 2-under par through four holes thus far. Charles Howell sits in fourth at 10-under.

As for a few of the more notable golfers in the field, Vijay Singh is at 1-under through eight holes today and is currently tied for 17th place at 7-under. Ernie Els is now on his final hole of the day and shot 3-under par to improve his overall mark to 6-under.
