The Pepperdine Waves have waited more than seven years to defeat a ranked opponent, and they will have to wait a little while longer. The Waves lost 73-45 to the No. 25 Gonzaga Bulldogs in Spokane on Thursday night to fall to 1-2 in West Coast Conference play.
The Waves' last win against a ranked opponent came on November 27, 2004, and Pepperdine has lost 15 straight games against ranked foes since then. Pepperdine has lost 21 straight games to Gonzaga (12-2, 2-0), and has lost 14 consecutive road contests to the Zags.
Pepperdine (7-7, 1-2) was down only four points with 9:13 remaining in the first half, but Gonzaga went on a 23-9 run to end the half, taking a 38-20 lead into the break.
Gonzaga had four players in double figures, led by Gary Bell with 14 points. Jordan Baker led the Waves with 10 points and six rebounds. Pepperdine continues their weekend road trip through the Pacific Northwest as they battle the Portland Pilots on Saturday night.
