Long Beach State Guard Casper Ware Wins Big West Conference Player Of The Week

Casper Ware was on fire last week, leading the Long Beach State 49ers to two road victories, and the senior guard was honored on Monday. Ware was named the Big West Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week, the third time Ware has won the award this season.

Ware scored a career-high 30 points on nine-of-12 shooting in Thursday's 78-69 victory at Cal Poly, including 22 points in the second half as Long Beach State completed a comeback. On Saturday night, Ware hit four three-pointers en route to 14 points and five assists, leading the 49ers to a blowout 71-48 win at the Thunderdome over the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos.

Long Beach State has won 16 consecutive regular season games in Big West Conference play.

On the season, Ware leads the 49ers in scoring at 17.0 points per game and is climbing some all-time lists in Long Beach State history. Ware is second all-time at the school in assists with 492, just 16 behind Billy Walker for the top spot in school history. Ware is also second in steals (191, nine behind Lucious Harris), fourth in scoring (1,590 points), fourth in three-pointers made (168), and second in free throws made (414). Ware has scored in double figures in 38 of his last 39 games.
