It is time again for the Bob Hope Classic in the Coachella Valley, only now the annual PGA Tour stop in the low desert has a new name. The Humana Challenge in partnership with the Clinton Foundation gets underway on Thursday morning in La Quinta, California, with defending champion Jhonattan Vegas, Phil Mickelson and many others.
The 144-player field includes one Greg Norman, who hadn't participated in the Hope Classic since 1986. Former President Bill Clinton called Norman to ask him to come to the desert for the tournament affiliated with his charitable organization. "We had a very frank conversation about the opportunities and the format, and how the tournament can be resurrected," Norman told the Associated Press. "The Bob Hope was such an iconic event. We hate to see events like that disappear."
The popular pro-am tournament will be televised by the Golf Channel beginning at noon PST. With as many amateurs as professionals, the event begins on three courses with each course split among those starting on the first or 10th holes.
