LA Galaxy Pull Out Miracle Victory Against Monarcas Morelia

The Facts are these. The LA Galaxy were facing elimination from the CONCACAF Champions League. With a draw, Alajuelense could have kicked them out of the tournament with a win tomorrow. Instead, the Galaxy find a goal in stoppage time to pull them past Monarcas Morelia, 2-1.

Things at the Home Depot Center were tense. The Los Angeles Galaxy were limited to selling 7,500 tickets due to the start time (had they kicked off at 7:30 they could have sold 10,500) and all of them were sold. The crowd favored Morelia, making both the Monarcas as well the LA Galaxy fans extra loud.

The opening goal came from the Galaxy in a fantastic sequence of events. Michael Stephens found Todd Dunivant in the the 18 yard box with a cross. Dunivant rolled it to Mike Magee who flicked it past Morelia's keeper who was able to brush the ball as it flew by.

The Galaxy lead lasted into the second half, and to the hour mark. Morelia had dribbled into the 18 yard box, when Bryan Jordan deflected the ball into the middle. Rafael Lugo found the paydirt and knocked it home for the equalizer.

Everything looked bleak at the Home Depot Center. Going into stoppage time, things were tense. Josh Saunders had cursed out Bryan Jordan walking away from that goal. Landon Donovan and Chad Barrett were cursing out teammates.

Then it all happened so quickly. On a corner kick from Landon Donovan, Chad Barrett knocked it to Juninho, who smashed it home. The Galaxy just had to wait for the final whistle.

Having won, the Galaxy put the finishing order in group A in a complete jumble. It all depends on the final day now. It should be an amazing finish.
