Jered Weaver Looks To Remain Undefeated At Home Against Mariners

Jered Weaver and the Angels open a three-game series Friday night in Anaheim against the Mariners, who have recovered to win five of seven games since their 17-game losing streak. Jason Vargas starts for Seattle. The Angels have owned the Mariners of late in Anaheim, and hope to continue the same.

The Angels swept Seattle from July 7-10, and have won seven straight home games against Seattle dating back to last year. In fact, the Angels have won 12 of their last 13 and 16 of their last 18 against the Mariners at Angel Stadium of Anaheim. Weaver has been a big part of that success.

In his last seven home starts against Seattle, dating back to 2008, Weaver has allowed two runs or fewer in each game.  He has allowed seven total runs in those seven contests, all Angels wins. In fact, the Angels have not lost in Weaver's 10 career home starts versus the Mariners, thanks in part to Weaver's 2.01 ERA in those games.

Weaver on the season leads the majors with a 1.88 ERA, and has been a quality start machine. Weaver is tied with Justin Verlander for the MLB lead with 21 quality starts this season. Weaver has a current string of 14 straight quality starts that is tied with Frank Tanana for the Angels franchise record for most consecutive quality starts, which Tanana set in 1977. Given his history against the Mariners, Weaver just might pass Tanana tonight.

Tonight's 7:05 p.m. PDT game will be televised by Fox Sports West. For more news and information on the Angels, or on tonight's game, be sure to read Halos Heaven.
