KeiVarae Russell from Mariner, WA had his top three down: the Washington Huskies, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, the California Golden Bears. Everything was so simple, and he was going to come to a decision at some point in the near future.
Make that far future; the USC Trojans have entered the fray according to Jake Worthen of Scout. Lane Kiffin's handing out offers like Jehovah's witness pamphlets, and now Russell has a top 5.

It's not often that I say it, but this is a really strange offer from USC. The Trojans already have D.J. Morgan, Curtis McNeal, Dillon Baxter and the suspended Marc Tyler in their rotation. They have Amir Carlisle coming in with the 2011 recruiting class, and they've already signed two additional running backs for the 2012 class in Jahleel Pinner and Kelvin York.
With only Tyler in his senior season, that leaves USC with SIX running backs for next season, and probably four or five in what would be Russell's redshirt freshman season. Unless USC is planning on losing tailbacks or rescinding scholarships from current verbals, it's hard to figure out this move, particularly with the Trojans low on scholarships and likely to become deficient in other areas.
PS: To put a corkscrew on all of that, Russell also lists Boise State in his top five along with USC and his original top 3. Might as well sit back and wait this one out, because it doesn't look like Russell is coming to a decision anytime soon.
