The UCLA Bruins offensive line might as well draw purple hearts on their powder blue jerseys, because it seems every time they take the field, they're in danger of serious injury. Or things that look like serious injuries.
Projected starting offensive guard Chris Ward appears to be the latest player in danger of missing significant action. Chris Foster of the Los Angeles Times reports Ward had to be carted off the field after practice today after suffering an injury to his right ankle. The original reports are "mild ankle sprain", although MRIs have yet to check anything out.
An injury that takes Ward out for any significant time will leave the Bruins with significant trouble up the middle. Sean Sheller has already moved over from left guard to take over left tackle duties, and Jeff Baca is out for the first few weeks of the season. This opens up the door for JuCo transfer Albert Cid to win the duties, as he'd been alternating snaps with Ward up to now.
