Turns out Justin Combs just wasn't visiting UCLA so his dad could hang out with famous Bruin NBA alumni in summer school. Combs is seriously interested in becoming a Bruin, and he received an offer from Rick Nehuheisel this weekend. Brandon Huffman of Scout had the original report.
Combs does have some solid Divison-I offers from schools like Illinois, Iowa, West Virginia and Virginia. This is his first major West Coast offer.
This isn't just a publicity stunt. Combs does appear to be an up-and-coming cornerback with decent measurables. Although he hasn't been ranked by any of the major services, Combs does appear to be attracting attention for reasons that don't involve his dad enthralling the local recruits. He still has to work on his form tackling, but you figure that he shows enough flashes for coaches to really like where he's sitting.
He also brought Nicki Minaj to his 16th birthday party. Intangibles, check!
